Day 4. I shock myself most of the time!

I have done 4 days IN A ROW of AM exercise. Gotten up between 5 and 5:25 all 4 mornings and got in a good workout. I am feeling AWESOME!! Food has been SPOT ON with no waivering. With getting these 4 days in I know I won't have any problem getting in a 5th. There is no way I am going to slack now when the week is almost over. I have worked to hard.

We are going floating in a raft on a river on Saturday for my brother-in-laws birthday. Him and his girlfriend have done this a few years now so it seems to be a new tradition so they invited us to go along and we found childcare thanks to both J and I's wonderful parents so we get to go along.

We will be taking a cooler with healthy food choices and WATER only!!! No beer or other alcoholic beverage is going to touch this stomach. NO SIREE!!

I am debating on posting my "before" pictures on my blog. I think I might do it I am just not sure. They are of me in a sports bra and shorts so I am bearing all (well almost). I think if I post it I might be even more motivated to keep up with my eating and working out b/c I don't want to post the same looking pictures 7 weeks from now when my challenge is over with. So I think I have answered my own debate and I think I will post them. Most likely on Monday. Not sure you will want to see my chubby belly but just grin and bear it or don't look (this is your warning).

Come on habit...let's form!

I am 3/3 on AM workouts this week. I DID make it up this morning and I did a cardio workout in my garage with my TM and a step bench and a few body weight exercises like squats and lunges. YEA!!!

My goal when I started the 8 week challenge was to exercise at least 4 days a week. Well, I have not decided to bump it up to 5 days a week. I want to see if I can exercise 5 days a week for 8 weeks. This WON'T be easy. I will have to dig deep if I want to do this. I can't imagine the results I would have though if I did stick to it. I sure would love to find out though.

I do have that lofty goal but I do have to take it one day at a time though b/c like everything if I look at the big picture too much I get too overwhelmed and then I doubt myself. So I will take it one day at a time for now.

If I can do it for a good solid 3-4 weeks then I will feel confident that I can keep it up b/c I will not want to have gone that far and been successful then not see the goal to the end so these first few weeks are crucial to my goal.

Thursday mornings plan is a full body workout at the gym. I love these, LOTS of weights!

Friday morning will be 45 minutes of cardio most likely in my garage again.

Then I get to look forward to rest days on Saturday and Sunday.

2 days in a row...OH MY!

I made it two days in a row to the gym in the AM. Let's see if I can make it 3 in the morning. I am just doing cardio in the morning so I could do it at home if I want. I am just not sure if I will do it though and if I do if I will do it at the intensity that I need to. There is something about getting up and driving to the gym and having several other people there working out that just wakes me up and makes me push myself. So I might end up going and doing my work out at the gym instead. We shall see.

Food is SOLID!!! I hate to get excited about 2 days in a row of SOLID clean food since I have such a long way to go but I am still excited about it. I guess it is better than 2 days in a row of not sticking to my plan. Of course I had a really good week last week also and then just had 2 splurge meals on both Friday and Saturday night so I have been doing well with the food for a while now.

Here was my food from yesterday:

B - 3 boiled egg whites, 3 egg whites made into an omelet with 1 cup of spinach in it, 1 orange, 1 cup of green tea

S - apple and a controlled portion of peanut butter, no more dipping my spoon back in the jar for a little extra.

L - lunch out to eat, a turkey salad w/ vinegar and oil dressing and NO CRACKERS!

S - protein shake and 3/4 oz. of cheese

D - grilled mahi mahi, shredd cabbage w/ a mixture of cottage cheese blended w/ ranch fiesta seasoning in it (makes a dressing type stuff - YUMMY), this was over the cabbage and then I had a corn tortilla and some steamed broccoli. I put some of the cole slaw stuff and fish in the corn tortilla to make a fish taco type thing. Husband thought of this and it was GOOD!

FYI: A good tip to have as a dressing or as a veggie dip is to get low fat or fat free cottage cheese and blend up in a magic bullet or blender and then add a packet of your favorite ranch seasoning of choice and mix it up, add water to make it thick or thin, whatever consistency you like.

Starting off with a BANG!!!

Today is the first day of the Phit-N-Phat 8 week Back to School Challenge. There is a little over $400 to be won which means there are over 40 participants. The competition is FIERCE!!!! So in order to be in the top of the group I have to stick to my plan CONSISTENTLY!

Day 1 is a success so far. I made it to the gym this morning for leg ST. YEA!!! Funny, I just popped out of bed at 5 AM and got ready and headed out. I felt GREAT! Food is on plan too so far so I will just take it one day at a time. I don't want to get too bogged down with the big picture. Just one workout and one meal at a time and I will get to where I want to be.

J is on-plan too as far as I know that is. He is playing basketball today for some cardio and took his lunch and snacks. He ate his egg/egg white breakfast before he left this morning.

Oh and we had a nice weekend too, we went to dinner together with the girls on Friday for Pizza, YUM, and then we went to play mini-golf and then we had ice cream, double YUM. Saturday night we hung out with some friends and then Sunday we grocery shopped and prepped some food.

Plan for Tuesday is 5:30 AM workout again. Doing cardio, not sure if I will do it at home or at the gym.

HMMMM...what a concept

Staying consistent with your healthy food DOES cause a fat loss reaction. Who would have thought. HA Well, after 7 days of good healthy eating and sticking to my plan I am donw 1.8 pounds. WOOT!! From 153.8 as of last Friday to 152 on the dot this Friday.

The weekend is coming up so I am trying to prepare and figure out my plan for weekend food. We might go out for pizza tonight. I had been wanting some but I am SO on a roll right now I am not sure I should step off just yet. I will think about it.

Saturday night we have a get together at our friends house, Tara and Steve. We are all bringing our own meat to grill and a side dish and a portion of the dessert. J and I will bring steaks and then I am bringing corn on the cob and then strawberries for the strawberry short cake. I plan to eat steak, corn, deviled eggs, and most likely a portion of this potato dish that another friend is bringing. If I think I can control my portion size of it then I will eat it and if not the I will stick to the corn. We are also have pasta salad so I might have a bit of that.

Sunday, will be grocery shopping and food prep for my 1st official week of the challenge starting on Monday.

Oh get this, I don't think I shared with you that J is doing the challenge with me. We have a couples edition going on so we are entering that and then I am doing it as an individual also. YEA!!! I have threatened J within an inch of his life that since he committed to this (his idea by the way, I had nothing to do with it, in fact the couples edition was sparked by me asking Corinne if he could participate in the challenge b/c he was interested) he better see it through. I mean the coach and his wife CANNOT LOSE!! We never do anything with the intention of losing. PLAY TO WIN IS ALL WE KNOW!!!!

Food, recipe and starting weight.

I am ROCKING my food. I mean SOLID!!! WOOT!! At least I got that part down, now I just need to rock the exercise about 4-5 days a week.

Although the challenge officially starts on Monday, July 27th we could report our "start weight" yesterday so I reported in at 153.2. I still need to do measurements and pictures with in the next couple of days.

Here is what I ate yesterday:
B- protein shake, oatmeal w/ 1 tbsp of flaxseed mill - 1 tbsp of wheat germ and 1/2 cup of blueberries

S - protein shake

L - hamburger patty w/ mustard, tomato and steamed brocc/cheese cup and 2 tbsp of pecans

S - protein shake and and apple

D - protein pancakes and 1/4 cup of sf syrup. I LOVE THESE THINGS.

Here is the recipe for protein pancakes, I just love these things. They taste so good with some sugar free syrup and sometimes I even add a few squirts of whip cream to the top. YUMMO!

mix all of this together and put in a blender or magic bullet is what I have and those things are AWESOME.

1/2 cup of oatmeal ( I use regular whole instant oatmeal, you could use quick oats too)

1 scoop of protein powder ( I use BSN Syntha 6 lean dessert whipped vanilla, they also have banana nut and cinnamon roll flavor, this stuff is GOOD and rather low in carbs and sugar considering how good it is. I order it on-line from bodybuilding.com that is the cheapest place I have found any protein powder)

3 egg whites

1 tsp of vanilla

3/4 tsp of baking powder

1/4 - 1/3 cup of water

blend together and have your skillet hot and spray some non-stick spray and poor out the mixture to your desired pancake size and wait for the edges to start bubbling and and then flip. They don't take very long to cook.

Cleaning it up and turning up the heat!

Cleaning up my food that is and turning up the heat on my exericse!

As most of you know I have lost 55 pounds from my highest known weight of 208 and I have lost 20 pounds since having Lizzie (my 2nd daughter) a little over 2 years ago. I am currently residing in the low 150's around 152 give or take a pound or two on any given day. I am actually at a pretty comfortable weight and at a place that I have actually maintained for over 1 1/2 years which is AWESOME in my book. To be able to maintain my weight for that long is just as hard if not harder than losing it for me.

In that 1 1/2 years I have run 3 half marathons and a full marathon and although you can lose weight when doing those types of endurance events it is difficult. You have to be extremely mindful of what you eat and what you give yourself as a treat or how often you splurge. My main focus during the runs was the running and I made sure I ate the necessary nutrients to give me the energy that I needed but I also indulged a lot more than I typically would b/c I had a little more wiggle room. I was totally fine with the maintenance and even gained a few pounds with the marathon training. No problem though, completely fine with it and happy that I was able to stay this weight throughout the last 1 1/2 years.

Well now times have changed and I am ready to push myself a little further than I have. I feel like I have come this far and I want to keep going with my fatloss mission. As far as my health goes I would say I am good, I eat what most people consider healthy foods 80% of the time and I still indulge in foods that I consider un-healthy and I enjoy them and don't feel guilty about them. So the next part of my journey isn't about being healthier it is more about my self satisfaction and proving to myself that I can do it. It isn't about seeing a number on the scale although it will obviously go down as the fat goes away. It is about looking in the mirror and being proud of what I have achieved. I am extremely proud to date I might add but I want to go further and push what I think are my limits. If you reach a goal in life then it is a natural process to make another and go for it so that is what I am doing here.

In order to get to where I see myself getting I have to tighten up what I feel is already pretty tight eating even more and I MUST hit the WEIGHTS!!! Obviously, I LOVE to run but I also LOVE to lift weights and I have seen first hand what they can do to change someone's body. Strength training and a healthy clean diet TRANSFORMS people. But like anything you have to do it or it doesn't work. Just thinking about going to the gym or turning on the exercise DVD won't make you fit. Boy, I wish it did.

To give me some momentum at Phit-N-Phat we are starting an 8 week individual challenge and the winner gets some CASH!!! I am known on PNP to be rather competitive. As a team leader I have won a couple of challenges on PNP and I previously won an individual challenge in 2007. So this is one more chance to do it for myself and in the process I could win some cold hard cash. Who doesn't need that?

So stay tuned for the coming 8 weeks beginning on Monday, July 27th for my updates of what I am eating and what exercise I am doing. I plan to be shocked with myself with what I can do in 8 weeks. I can't wait to see the transformation. I will take before and after pics and measurments too so I will share those. I might not share them until the end though just for a dramatic affect. I'm winning this thing and if I don't I can assure you I won't go down without a fight. I have my food MOJO going and I am determined just like I was when I decided to train for a full marathon, there was nothing stopping me.

The great thing is that there are MANY PNPers who have their fires lit and they are ready to give me a run for my money so I know this will just keep me going and keep my momentum strong!

I'M BACK with LOTS of pictures from the BEACH

I am back from my FABULOUS vacation to the beach. We had a blast. The girls loved playing with their friends and all of the adults had a great time too. I miss it. I love the atmosphere, the sand between my toes, the constant cool breeze and the relaxation.

Here are pictures from our wonderful trip in in extremely random order:

Lizzie was so exhausted one night this is how she fell asleep with the baby on her face and the sippy cup by her face. HA

Phat Camp ROCKED

Phat Camp with Phit-N-Phat was a womens fitness retreat held in Nashville, TN where the leader of PNP, Corinne, lives. It was SO AWESOME and I am so thankful that I went. It was worth taking time out of my life and my work to do this for myself. I met 29 other fabulous women with the same goal in mind, living a healthy and fit lifestyle. Some of them are towards the end of their goal but not their journey and some of them are just beginning or have been fighting the demons for a long time and were hoping for a renewed sense of enery and focus. I am pretty sure they got it now.

We talked about many things and fighting the "Fat Girl Thinking (FGT)" that a lot of people have and we exercised with intensity and good form and we had a heck of a good time on Saturday night on a party bus and at a bar which even involved dancing on the bar. WOOT!

A few take aways from the weekend for me were:

1) You don't have to go from a big mac to an apple overnight. There are a lot of other healthy options in between that are perfectly fine and you might not even ever get to the apple but choosing a regular burger with no cheese and no mayo and a side salad or a grilled chicken sandwich and then maybe a grilled chicken salad are all tasty and healthy options. It doesn't have to be only an apple. It is NOT all or nothing, go for the in between to make it a true lifestyle and then sometimes eat the big mac if you really want it and sometimes eat the apple if you really want that.

2) HEALTH and just doing things for the reasons of good health should always be your #1 priority and if you are doing that then your body will respond with fat loss. Keep BEING HEALTHY on the forefront of your mind always.

3) CHOICES, it is ALL ABOUT the choices you make. The choice you make to eat the bad food, the better food or the good food and the if you choose to exercise or not.

4) Work to your OWN potential. Don't compare yourself to others and do what YOU can do and push YOURself. You can almost always go harder than you are.

5) INTENSITY and FORM. Do not sacrifice form for more weight and If ANY move feels 'easy'... YOU AIN'T DOING IT RIGHT! PERIOD

It was TRULY a wonderful experience and the people that I met were just so GREAT. I hope to make this a yearly event.
