What a GREAT week!

I had such an AWESOME week with my food. I am so so so proud of how I stuck to my plan. I usually do well but this week I knocked it out of the park. I even went out to lunch twice but took along the food I brought and sat and enjoyed the company while eating my healthy food I prepared.

I only worked out 3 times which isn't as good as the 5 days that I shoot for but I did workout and 2 of those were ST and 1 was a walk on the TM so I am not going to fret over it. It is still pretty good.

My goal is to continue my food success into the weekend. We do have a birthday dinner planned for Saturday night for my 17 year old cousin. This will be at a place called catfish hole so you can imagine what is served there...fried everything. Now, they do have hawaiin chicken, baked potatoes, green beans and salads so there are other healthier options. I havent' decided yet if this will be a splurge meal of or if I will go with the healthier choices. I absolutely earned 1 splurge meal this week so if I might decide to dig into some chicken strips and hush puppies. I am going to wait until tomorow to make my decision.

WATER - I gotta get in my water this weekend. A gallon on both Saturday and Sunday. I will do it.

Staying the course and trying new foods.

I am in the middle of week 5 of my Back to School Challenge with Phit-N-Phat. Although, the scale has not moved how I wanted it to/wish it would have I am still very pleased with my progress. The scale did finally show me some love this weekend and I am officially down 2.2 pounds from the beginning of the challenge. I still have not taken my measurments half way through. I need to do that.

The positives:

1) I have worked out 5 days a week for 3 weeks and 2 days during last week when Lizzie was sick. I am on track to workout 5 days this week. This is HUGE. All of them have been in the morning at 5:30 with the exception of 1.

2) I was able to wear a pair of pants that I haven't been able to put on in about 8 months. My other pants are a tad loose.

3) I feel good. I mentally and physically feel GREAT!!!

4) I have ventured out and tried several new foods in the past 4 weeks and I actually like them and have added them all to my eating plan.

5) According to the scale which I am doing my best not to put too much stock in b/c the 4 positives above outweigh what the scale shows, I have lost 2.2 pounds of NASTY FAT!

Here are some of the foods I have tried that I have developed a taste for:

This green drink I refer to as a "green monster". I got this idea from a great blog I found, Healthy, Hott, Housewife, go check her out, she is very funny and post some great looking food and tells you what is in it. Anyway, I changed mine up a bit and I put in 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder, 1 whole peach chopped, water and about 1 cup of spinach. I SWEAR YOU CANNOT TASTE THE SPINACH. This is an awesome way to get in some veggies and not even know it. One day that I made it I put in a splash of milk and that was good too. I HIGHLY recommend trying this. Mix it in a magic bullet or something similar. SO GOOD! That is cute little Chloe in the background and my 1 egg, 4 egg white omelet with 1 oz. of cheese in it.

Then I have tried grapefruit. Which I have tried before and DID NOT like. Someone told me you have to get off all of the rhind (sp) so now I know how to fix it and with some splenda it is pretty tasty.

Next is yogurt. I do not care for yogurt. I have tried it several different times and several different types and I am just not a fan. I like milk but for some reason I don't care for the WHANG of yogurt as I call it, you know that sour milk or whatever taste it is that it has. I don't like that at all. Well, I decided to give greek yogurt a try and with some fruit in it and the occasional 1/4 cup of fiber one cereal....I LIKE IT! I will eat it again and again.

Finally, the thought and look of cottage cheese has always made me want to hurl. I mean it looks like vomit if you ask me so appropriately it makes me want to do that. Well, I was surfing the body for life website and I saw a recipe for "almost cheesecake". I LOVE ME SOME CHEESECAKE. So I thought maybe I should give this a chance and see what I think of it. Thanks to my handy dandy magic bullet that thing can whip up some cottage cheese like no one's business and it is silky, smooth and creamy. For 1 cup of cottage cheese add 1 tbsp of sugar free vanilla or french vanilla jello pudding mix and 1 tsp of vanilla and blend and put in the fridge and let it sit and it gels up a bit and add 1/4 cup of your favorite fruit, I like frozen blackberries warmed up or blueberries are good and you have a very tasty but healthy treat.

I can assure you that I NEVER thought I would be eating spinach blended up, yogurt, grapefruit and most definitely cottage cheese. I am glad I gave these foods another shot b/c they are all good foods that all provide some good nutrition. I encourage you to give a few foods another chance and one time isn't fair, you have to try them a few times or a few different types until you are absolutely certain you don't like it. Try to put it in a different form like I did the spinach and cottage cheese. GO FOR IT!

Check out my DIAMOND...

A Diamond Razor's Edge Hunting Bow that is! Fooled you, huh? The wife of a sports/hobby fanatic doesn't get real diamonds, well I did once when we got married for a wedding gift but that was in the beginning, 6 years later and I get this:

I LOVE IT THOUGH!!! This is my first time to shoot a bow and I really enjoyed it. We went to a sporting store yesterday to get some arrows for a crossbow that we have and J saw this while we were there and started talking to the guy at the store about (who we actually know) and he was telling us about it and asked if I wanted to take it out and give it a try. So I did. It was FUN!!! So we talked about it, J really wanted me to have it so then we can practice together (we have a homemade archery range at out house) and then I can go hunting with him. So I am working on my target practice for now and getting used to the bow and hunting season starts October 1st so I should be ready to roll by then.

Here is J shooting his bow. He is right handed but left eye dominant so he shoots backwards. He is strange.
I will keep you updated how I do. I should have taken a picture of the target. I shoot a group of 3 at a time and I can group them together pretty good. I have to say it isn't as hard as I thought it would be. My bow is set at 32 pounds (that is the amount of pressure it takes to get it back)and in order to shoot a deer it has to be up to 40 pounds and they say it is pretty easy to get built up to that so I should be good and ready to go by deer season. Plus, I have to slowly move back away from the target and still stay accurate and that just comes with practice.
Fun times!!! I can see this as an every evening ritual until the times changes. Practice practice practice!

Wedding Anniversary!

This Sunday, August 23rd will be J and I's 6th wedding anniversary. WOW, 6 years already. Some days it seems like it has been 20 and some days it seems like it was yesterday. Either way we have made it 6 years and we couldn't be happier. We have 2 beautiful little girls to show for our love. I told him that I hope we make it to 60. Time will tell. One day at a time, right?

I need to scan in a picture of us on our wedding day and then a picture of us now. Between the two of us we are about 55 pounds lighter. YEA!!! That is something to be proud of. We got skinnier together instead of the usual fatter together.
Here is a picture that is anniversary related that I have. These pictures are hanging in our living room. We just put them there last weekend. We are NOT decorators. That just isn't a priority for us. I love decorated homes but we have lived in our house for 5 1/2 years and we just now got curtains in our living room and kitchen. I know, it is crazy to wait that long. But like I said, not a priority. So the story behind the pics is when we were deciding on a wedding date, I threw out the date August 23, 2003. The first thing J said was "8 is Cal Ripken's number, 23 is Michael Jordan's number and 3 is Dale Murphy's number (a catcher he loves that played for the Braves.)". So for his wedding gift I tracked down pictures of those people and framed them and gave it to him as a gift. For a while we had it hanging up in a spare room until we had kids and it had to come down so these pics have been at the top of a closet for about 4 years.

So the other day when we finally bought curtains we were trying to think of what to hang on this one wall and he said what about those pics. So up they went and we love them. Of course J is such a sports fanatic and the pictures have so much meaning for both of us. By the way, in the crazy event that we have a boy (down the road) when we get pregnant with a 3rd baby, his name will be Cal. I love the name too and it just so happens to be the name of one of the greatest baseball players of all time so it just works out.

Tired Thursday

Lizzie had a fever yesterday and into the night. One time at 11PM I saw 105.4 on the thermometer then right after that saw 104.9. SCARY HIGH!!! It did come down with some meds and some time then went back up this morning. Dr. tested for flu and it was negative. Urine test came back negative so the verdict is a virus. Hopefully it will only be high today and then go back down tomorrow and go away eventually. Time will tell. Bless her little heart.

I hardly slept of course b/c I kept waking up looking at the clock b/c every two hours I gave her medicine. I took off work today to take her to the Dr. and stay home with her.

I just laid her down for a nap. I am eating lunch of salmon, 1/2 sweet potato and grapefruit and then taking a nap myself.

Good news is that I DID go to the bathroom a little bit ago so I have a little bit of relief. Shew. I hope it keeps coming. HA

I have to share tomorrow hopefully what we ate for dinner last night. It was good!

Still going strong but...

the scale is NOT MOVING. This is so puzzling to me b/c 95% of the time when I work out consistently and eat the right foods the scale moves down. Sometimes it is slow but it moves. I am still going at it though. I was at the gym this morning at 5:30 and did UB ST and eliptical.

I am still trying to take it easy on my knee and not run or do lunges or squats to see if that helps it. I go back to the Dr. tomorrow afternoon for him to kind of wrap it up and tell me where I need to from here. Not sure if I need more adjustments or certain exercises or what. We shall see.

Food for today:
post workout - protein shake
B - oatmeal w/ flax meal, fiber one, cinnamon, 1 tbsp of pecans, 1/2 cup of peaches
S - 10 baby carrots and 2 tbsp of spicy mustard
L - tuna w/ 2 tbsp lite miracle whip, 1 hard boiled egg
S - greek yogurt, 1/4 cup of fiber one, 1/2 cup of cantaloupe
D - grilled chicken, steamed squash and asparagus

There is one thing that is NOT happening and that is bathroom visits. I pee all day long but lack in the other area. Hence the fiber one and flax meal you see in my meal plan. I do think that is part of my issue, I am not getting rid of waste consistently.

I started my week off on the right foot with a visit to the gym this morning WOOT!! Gosh, I love it when I do that. It is killer to get out of bed at 5 am on a Monday especially but once I am there I am so glad I did it.

My weekend was FUN!! We got our house/yard really clean and looking good and our friends came over and we had some good food and good company. I didn't go overboard on the food either and that felt GREAT. I did have 4 drinks though so I did do some damage but at least it wasn't drinks and tons of bad food.

The great thing is that I drank 1 gallon of water on both Saturday and Sunday. Oh, and I went for a 4 mile walk on Saturday morning too so I got my weekend started off with a bang.

My food is back on track and I am feeling good. If that STUPID BLANKETY BLANK SCALE would just move itself on down I would be better. I can't win a challenge if I don't get a decent weight percentage loss. I have 5 weeks to get it to move on down. That is enough time. I AM NOT GIVING UP!!

ok, I am off to bed, I have an early morning Dr. appt. for a nagging knee issue I have been having. I will go into that another day.

This weekend will conclude my 3rd week of my Back To School Challenge that I am doing with Phit-N-Phat. On the plus side, I have exercised FIVE days each week for 3 weeks. WOW!! This is BIG. I have done pretty well with my food and only had 3 what I think are small cheats so that averages out to 1 per week which is fine if I am exercising 5 days and staying on my meal plan the rest of the time. The downfall is that the scale is not showing me the love but it will surely start moving soon enough. I am sure my body is in SHOCK from the consistent exercise and the strength training so I imagine it is trying to catch up.

I was planning to have a big ol' whopping splurge meal this Saturday but I spent part of it on Wednesday at my work potluck when I ate some apple pie ala mode. So I will take it much much easier on Saturday and I will enjoy some cheese dip/chips and no bake cookies but not in the amount that I was planning. I am still looking forward to our gathering of friends b/c they are a lot of fun.

Also, on the agenda for the weekend is to drink 1 gallon of water each day. I will not go to bed until the gallon is gone on Saturday and Sunday. I am awful about my weekend water and I need to make it a priority since my body is repairing form the exercise 5 days in a row.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. My girls start school (pre-school) on Wednesday so that will be fun for them and I will take the annual "first day of school picture".

Good and Bad

Good news is that I DID get up this morning and go to the gym for a great upper body strength work out. I STRUGGLED to get up though. Lizzie woke me up wanting some milk at the lovely time of 4:52 AM. I has my alarm set for 5. You know those 8 minutes would have made the world of difference (so I thought) and I got her milk and I was thinking about how tired I was and how I really could just go back to sleep. I sat in the recliner for a few minutes almost about to doze back off trying to talk myself into going to the gym. I had the conversation in my head about how mad I would be at myself if I didn't go and if I had to do my workout in the evening which I don't like but how the sleep would be really nice. So after a few minutes of my conversation I put my two feet on the ground, brushed my teeth, washed my face, got dressed and headed out the door. YEA!!!! I pushed it hard at the gym too, I wasn't going to waste my huge effort that I had made just to get myself there this morning.

Then comes the bad news is that I ate WAY too much at my works potluck. I thought I could have control and I didn't. I ate 1 1/2 plates of stuff AND I ate apple pie with ice cream. At least it was good and I didn't waste the calories on bad tasting food BUT I have my cheat meal already planned for this coming Saturday so now this means that I will have to cut back considerably on my in take of cheese dip and no bake cookies. BUMMER!!! That is o.k. I don't have to eat my weight in dip/chips and cookies in order to enjoy it. I can have just a little bit and savor every morsel.

I just hate getting off my very well thought out plan. Just throws things off. I am back on track though with a good snack and a healthy dinner planned.

Just another day

I am sure you get tired of my same ol boring post saying that I am eating decent and exercising but that is about all their is to me at the moment. I am TWO for TWO this week on the AM workouts and that feels GREAT!!!

Chloe is going to her 2nd gymnastics class today. We tried it out last week for a "test" class and it went well and she enjoyed it so we are enrolling her. She is so excited.

Tomorrow we have a potluck at work which typically means some pretty good food. My plan is to bring my own lunch and survey the scene tomorrow to see if there is something that looks good but that isn't totally off my plan. Jsut in case I will have my own food though.

I have upper body ST planned for my AM workout tomorrow at the gym.

ok, that is it. Boring I know.

WOOT it's Monday!

The weekend went GREAT as far as food goes and I enjoyed my two days of rest from exercise. The scale still IS NOT my friend but I am doing my best to keep my chin up and keep plugging along.

I started my Monday off right by heading to the gym this AM. WOO HOO!!! I am so proud of that.

We are starting week 3 of the Back 2 School challenge with Phit-N-Phat. Corinne says that on average that this is the week that gets to people and if they are thinking about quitting then they do b/c they think what they are doing isn't working or they get frustrated and give up. Well....the scale is not my friend and it actually says I am up 2.4 pounds from last week. WHAT? Yes, I am at 154 according to that darn scale BUT I will NEVER give up. I will get to my goal and that is the bottom line. If it were easy everyone would be fit and healthy, right?

So I am continuing to plug a long, log my food and get in my workouts and chug the water. Speaking of water Queen Corinne says that I need to make sure I get in A LOT of it on the weekends. I am SO BAD about drinking my water on the weekends b/c I am out of my routine so this weekend I am getting a gallon jug of water and I will drink one of those on Saturday and one on Sunday.

Oh man, I can't wait for the weekend already though and of course this revolves around food. We are having a get together at our house with all bad food and desserts and I am so ready to dig my teeth into some cheese dip and chips and some no bake cookies that my Mom is going to make. Seriously, when you resist temptations for an extended amount of time it makes the food that you love taste 100 times better. I think you appreciate it more or something. HA Not that I would want that food all of the time b/c I really wouldn't. I want the way I feel and look a bazillion times more than I want that food but that doesn't take away the great taste and satisfaction you get when you eat it. YUM!! I can already taste the salty tortilla chips and cheesedip in my mouth now.

5 for 5...two weeks in a row!

WOW!!! I am 5/5 two weeks in a row with my workouts. 9/10 workouts I have done at 5:30 in the AM and one I did around 9 at night b/c I failed to get up that morning. Actually, I got up and then went to the couch and went back to sleep b/c if J woke up I knew he would make me get out of bed but then after he got up he asked how my workout went and I told him I didn't do it and he made me work out that night. I should have just went back to sleep in my bed if I was going to tell him I didn't workout. Shoot. I should have lied. HA Not really, I am glad I told him I didn't work out and I am glad he made me do it that night. Now I can say I am solid on my goal of working out 5 days a week for 8 weeks.

No major weekend plans to speak of and I am glad. Of course I have the usual laundry, vacuuming and picking up but if I get busy that will take me about 1 hour or so.

I will be taking 2 days of rest over the weekend and I hope to get in a nap one of the days b/c I AM TIRED!!

Food is completely on plan. No splurges or treats this weekend. Saving it all up for next weekend when we have some friends over. I can taste it now, cheese dip, brownies, no bake cookies and don't forget the wine. YUM!

THANK YOU for all of the support for posting my before pics. I am just hoping that my consistent gym workouts and consistent foods pays off and I can post some "after" pictures that I am proud of. I obviously assume I will be able to but you just don't know until you get there. I will keep on keeping on and that is really all I can do. I will do my part and let my body transform in the way that it will.

Surely eating this type of meal will lead me to success:

Pan-seared in olive oil mahi mahi, asparagus cooked in olive oil and sprinkled with parm cheese, and sauteed squash/zucch in olive oil and 1 tsp of soy sauce. The vase in the back ground is what Chloe, Lizzie and J made me for Mother's Day and the flowers are zenia's from my flower bed.

Ok, here goes nothing. I really hope I don't regret posting this type of photo. My intent is to keep me MOTIVATED and to keep me doing the consistent work outs and continue with the healthy clean food over the next 7 1/2 weeks until the end of my Phit-N-Phat challenge. I DO NOT want to have 8 weeks go by and have to post the exact photo b/c I made no changes in my body.

Warning: this is Dawn as the " jail bird" . Corinne says make all "before" photos BAD. No makeup, hair not fixed, no smiling. Then the "after" is well you know...glamorous along with a smaller body.

FYI: I am 3/3 this week on the workouts. Only two more to go and the food has been SOLID!!! This darn stomach cannot shrink fast enough.

Week 1 = SUCCESS!!!!

You will be proud to know that I got in all 5 workouts last week. WOOT WOOT!!!! I ended up taking off work on Friday to stay home with the girls and J had a meeting. After he got home while the girls were napping we got on our workout clothes and hit the garage for a little circuit training. We were both sweaty messes and we felt GREAT!!!

Food over the weekend was AWESOME!! We even went out to eat twice and we made great decisions. On Friday night we went to Red Lobster and we looked at the menu on-line before hand to decide what we wanted and we split a grilled ensemble and steamed brocc and a baked potato and NO CHEESE BISCUITS!! Saturday we ate at Cracker Barrell and we each got something off the low carb menu and we traded 1/2 each so we each got some chicken and some hamburger steak. YEA!! We were so pleased with our healthy choices.

Weight is down 1.6 from the beginning of the challenge. Start = 153.2, Now = 151.6. J is down 4 pounds too!

Week 2 started out GREAT with an AM workout this morning of leg strength training.

Food for today:
post workout - protein shake
B - 3 boiled egg whites, 3 egg whites and spinach omelet, 1 orange
S - apple and pb
L - chicken/steak cooked in crockpot, green beans, lettuce, bell pepper and cucs
S - protein shake
D - fish and steamed squash I think.
