Accepting the DARE!

A few weeks ago my husband and I watched the movie Fireproof. If you haven't seen it is a religious based movie about marriage. The acting isn't swell but Kirk Cameron is in it and he is still as cute as he was on growing pains. You watch the movie in order to get the message about fighting for your marriage since you made a commitment to God to stick to it through thick and then basically.

So in the movie they talk about a book called "The Love Dare". The basics of it is that Kirk Cameron sees his marriage failing so he gets advice from his Dad to follow this book and it is 40 days of different things to make your marriage last if it is on the rocks or make it even better it is already good.

After some thought J and I decided that we wanted to do it. So you purchase the book, one for each of you and you read each days lesson and you do what it says and then you make notes in the book about how your spouse responded to what you did/or didn't do.

We are starting TODAY, Thursday, September 17, 2009. Today's lesson is about patience. I wish I would have brought the book with me so I could quote some things in it. It was very good and eye opening. Anyway, the thing you have to do today is so nothing negative to your spouse. So that is what J and I plan to do...NO NEGATIVITY! Here we go with day 1.

Just a note: our marriage is not failing. We have a pretty good one on most accounts and probably better than most but we want it to be even better so we thought it couldn't hurt to give this a whirl. I will keep you updated on our progress.

I have a friend who did that with her husband! He didn't keep to it like she would have liked, but what they did for the first few weeks was really nice. Good concept. Have you ever read the book "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman? I LOVE IT.

And, it's cute how you said your marriage is not failing. It didn't even cross my mind. There is always room for improvement and things can always be made better! I think it's great, people should invest more time into their union!

I have to agree with you. Even with a good marriage there may be a few things that need to be brushed up on and just knowing that your relationship is open enough to do this speaks volumes for you both.

Husband and I watched that movie and enjoyed it. I definitely agree that a marriage doesn't have to be in trouble to benefit from The Love Dare. Strengthening a good marriage is also important.
