JUST DO IT one day and one step at a time!
When I think back over the last 4 months and what I have set my mind too and accomplished I can hardly believe that I really did it. I ran a 5K, a 4 person marathon relay and 2 half marathons. Seriously, me, I did that. Years ago the thought never crossed my mind and then 2 1/1 years ago when I decided to start running just for exercise and to help myself lose some weight and I finally got up to 3 miles after 7 months I still never thought that a half marathon would be in my future. After I had my baby 1 year ago I just thought I wanted to get back to running and I wanted to do a 5K again and I did that then I set my sights on a 10K then after I did that it finally crossed my mind that just maybe I could double the distance and do a half marathon and that is exactly what I did. I really had to not think about it for a while b/c if I did the fear would get in my way and I would doubt the fact that I would be able to do 13 miles. I really did just adopt the attitude "fake it till you make it". I just thought I have to go one week at a time and one day at a time at this or it becomes overwhelming. For me I have to always remember the ultimate goal but at the same time just take it one step and one day at a time. I remember in January when I started the official half marathon training I would run 3 miles 2 days a week then I did 4 miles one weekend then the next weekend 5 miles and then 6 and so on. I remember after I did 8 miles one weekend I thought will I ever be able to do 5 more miles and make it 13 miles. Well...I DID!! It was just one step at a time literally and it worked. Always keeping my mind and crossing that finish line of a 13 mile race and the feeling of accomplishment that would be and when I finally did it, it was ALL WORTH IT. I pushed myself through the doubt and fear and just DID IT!! I don't really have any words of advice of how I did it. I wish I did. I think Nike says it best JUST DO IT!
