Goal? GOT ONE??

I was thinking last night how awesome it is when you set a goal of any sort and you accomplish it. It can be as small as not eating any chocolate for a day too running a marathon. There is just something about making up your mind about something and then over the course of minutes or days or weeks doing what you need to do to accomplish what you set out to do. It gives you such a sense of satisfaction and confidence when you get it done. To me there are just not many feelings like that. I just HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you give goal setting a try. I think people don't set goals b/c of the fear that they won't meet it. Isn't that so sad but it is so very true. FEAR holds people back in so many avenues of their life. I have been there, trust me. I was overweight and lazy and not active at all for a good 8 years of my life. I can't really tell you what the trigger was for me that made me realize that I didn't want to live like that anymore or what my "aha" moment was. I think it finally just clicked and I thought to myself, I made myself this way and I can un-make myself this way. That is exactly what I did. I set small goals of 5 pounds or to get up and exercise 2 mornings during the week or to eat clean and healthy 3 days in a row. As you accomplish those small goals it truly does become easier to conquer the bigger ones. About 2 1/2 years ago I started running. Now, I was active (played tennis) when I was in high school but that was MANY years ago so I obviously new I was athletic but at the same time I had never run. I thought I would give it a try and I could not even run 1/2 mile without stopping. I mean I couldn't even run 1/4 mile without stopping. Over time I have just built myself up and After several weeks when I was final able to run 1 mile without stopping I thought to myself well now you have to run 1.5 and then 2 and then 3. Until I was finally able to run 3 miles. I mean what a milestone in my life. I will never ever forget the feeling I had when I crossed the finish line at my first 5K, it was a Race for the Cure in 2006. Tears came to my eyes when I realized what I accomplished. Now fast forward to today when I am training for a HALF MARATHON!! Remember that there was a time that I could not run 1/4 of a mile and now I am planning to run 13!! Do you guys see what setting a goal and doing the necessary things to get to it can do for you. Like I said, you do not have to run 13 miles to be successful. You don't even have to run 1. Just make yourself walk up the stairs at work, or walk 10 minutes at lunch or don't get fast food all week or avoid the donuts in the break room this week. Those are all goals that are achievable if you put your mind to it. PLEASE DON'T SELL YOURSELF SHORT!!! Set a goal and achieve it and I promise you won't regret it!
